CORE Vocabulary at Heartwood

Our new Heartwood Principal, Alexis Adams, helps us learn about CORE Vocabulary; it is a small set of simple words, in any language, that are used frequently and across contexts. CORE makes up about 75% of what adults and children actually say. Our Heartwood staff have implemented CORE for the last two years with wonderful results. Great job, team! #inghamimpact

Early Childhood

Our Early Childhood staff support teachers and families from pregnancy to Kindergarten. Early Childhood provides home visits, special education programs, play groups, instructional support and comprehensive preschool options for students throughout the Ingham ISD service area. Collaboration takes place between elementary instruction and early childhood staff to build systems and best practices which help student read proficiently by grade 3. #inghamimpact

Multi-Tiered System of Supports

We are on an journey using a successful approach to improve student results. New technology allows educators to proactively use data and identify the needs of individual students. Research is used to make decisions about what we teach and how we teach it. This is how students advance in a system of supports, known as Multi-Tiered System of Supports or MTSS. This provides intensified interventions to support students based on their needs. #inghamimpact

Reading and Literacy

A focus on early literacy is the gateway to reading. The more you can read for comprehension, the more knowledge you gain. At Ingham ISD, we are working with our local districts providing early literacy supports and using data to help inform families about their student’s progress. It takes a village to support young minds from birth to grade 3 and beyond and our team is part of a broader group of educational professionals who believe in the power of teamwork. Thank you to all of our families, teachers and educators out there; we are all literacy coaches. #inghamimpact
