While learning happens all year long, summer is filled with family trips, outdoor activities and usually a break from traditional structured study time. The Lansing Rotary members wanted to do something special for young learners in the region and decided to hold a book drive. Over 350 books were collected from Lansing Rotary members in May and delivered to Ingham Intermediate School District (ISD) for use with students and families.

Ingham ISD held its biennial board member election Monday, June 3, 2019. Two six-year terms on the Board were up for election with terms beginning on July 1, 2019 and ending on June 30, 2025. One seat was also open for the remaining four-years of a six-year term, beginning on July 1, 2019 and ending on June 30, 2023.

On Tuesday, May 21, Wilson Talent Center Culinary Arts Instructor, Chef Corbett Day, was honored with Applebee’s Teacher of the Year award. Representatives from Applebee’s and TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants were on hand to surprise Chef Day with the award.

As you may remember, the corner of Howell and Hagadorn is being developed into a wildlife habitat by our BioScience Careers class and community partners. Recently, the BioScience Careers students collected soil samples for the purpose of testing to determine the best time to plant the native wildflowers and grasses. Based on those results, planting will take place the last week of May and first week in June.
Ingham Intermediate School District is offering a variety of summer learning opportunities for students. Offerings include both gifted and talented programs such as Kids College and Mathematics Analytics Series: Cultivating Optimum Teamwork (MASCOT) as well as exposing students to future careers through career and technical education camps offered at Wilson Talent Center.

Nine students from the Wilson Talent Center will be traveling to Anaheim, California May 1-5, 2019 to participate in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) national competition.
